Soft leaded tin bronze with the best sliding and emergency-lubrication properties
CuSn5Pb20 is also known as Ltp120 and Promet 420 — in international standards the material appears under the designations JM14 and CC497K. The alloy is the softest of the leaded tin bronzes and has the best sliding and emergency-lubrication performance. It adapts extremely well to edge loading, is suited to water-lubricated bearings, and can embed hard particles that would otherwise scratch the shaft. The material resists the corrosive action of sulphuric acid well and is suited to applications where white metal was previously used. Typical applications include the bearings of large rotating drum kilns such as pulp-incineration and cement kilns, the bearings of the heaviest earth-moving machinery, and the water-lubricated bearings of debarking-line conveyors.
