Economical gunmetal for sliding-bearing applications

CuSn5Zn5Pb5 is also known as RG5 and Promet 5 — in international standards the material appears under the designations JM1 and CC491K. The alloy is an economical general-purpose sliding-bearing material: it withstands wear well, is seawater- and corrosion-resistant, and has good sliding properties. In a hydrodynamically lubricated bearing the surface pressure can reach 25–45 N/mm². Typical applications include corrosion-susceptible parts of paper machines, medium-loaded bushings in machine building, cylinder bushings, ship propeller-shaft casings, and slow-rotating worm gears.
