Strong high-tensile brass for heavy machine-shop applications
CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1 is also known as EMs 5750, Soms 45 and steel brass — in international standards the material appears under the designations JM15 and CC765S. The alloy is a tough, hard high-tensile brass whose strength properties correspond to those of Fe 50 steel. It has moderate sliding properties and withstands seawater, but it is susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking. Typical applications include pressure flanges, ground bushings, ship propellers, valve equipment, and worm wheels whose teeth are subject to impact loads, high surface pressure but low sliding speed.
